This is an exciting and rewarding role within the West Berkshire School Exclusions Team. The aim of this role to is to support and assist highlighted pupils at risk of further exclusions to develop resilience, strategies and an understanding of themselves to help prevent further exclusions. This role is being funded by the Turnaround Families Programme and is fixed term until 31/03/2021. It will involve supporting pupils who meet the criteria of this programme to reduce the number of exclusions they receive and to support their SEMH needs using varied interventions.
The team is based in West Street House in Newbury but the post holder will be working with pupils from across all schools within West Berkshire working term time only (44.2 weeks per year).
The post holder will be expected to work as part of a dynamic mental health team in a creative environment where evidenced-based interventions, new ideas, ways of working and supporting young people are actively encouraged. This approach requires flexibility and adaptability, and above all a passion for working and building effective working relationships with young people. The post-holder will employ a range of evidence based interventions for common mental health problems via direct individual support. Support will also be provided to parents.
A committed team worker, the post holder will carry a caseload and work on their own initiative. Time management skills are essential given the variety of this challenging yet rewarding role and use of own car is essential.

This role requires the incumbent to have a car available at work to undertake his/her duties as they will be expected to undertake at least 1500 business miles per year. Essential Car User status attracts a lump sum allowance paid on a monthly basis as well as a free car parking space if he/she works at one of the Council’s corporate buildings.
