The Public Protection Partnership (PPP) is one of the largest regulatory service units in the region. With over 100 staff the PPP is an intelligence led organisation delivering Trading Standards, Environmental Health and Licensing services to around 450K people over three local authority areas. As well as staff from all public protection disciplines we have our own intelligence unit, financial investigation unit and case management team of lawyers.
A vacancy has arisen for an experienced licensing officer to work in the field within one of our operational units namely: compliance and enforcement, response or programme delivery. The service currently issues over 5000 licences, permits and authorisations a year and its approach to licensing enforcement is a combination of premise based audits and issue based programmes aimed at raising standards and protecting the public.
The successful candidate will already hold a recognised qualification in licensing matters and be a member of the Institute of Licensing. You will also need to be able to demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the legal framework governing all areas of licensing, such as taxi driver and operator licensing, entertainment, animal welfare, scrap metal dealership and other licensable commercial activity. We would be particularly interested to hear from specialists in licensing investigations or who have developed and delivered a targeted programme of audit and inspections. For the right candidate we are committed to training and development and the service has its own lead officer in this respect.
We are ideally looking to offer the successful candidate the full number of hours advertised above. We may however consider offering less hours than advertised providing they meet the requirements of the role and service which will be determined by the recruiting manager.
This role has been identified as public facing in accordance with Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2017; the requirement to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence in English applies.
