Join our Property Assets Team at Swindon Borough Council

Swindon – ‘expect the unexpected’. If you bank with Nationwide, use Intel products, drive a Mini, take a GWR train, enjoy Formula 1, have ever visited a National Trust property, or watched Tim Peake’s progress through space, you’ve got Swindon to thank. Now you too can be part of it!

Swindon is one of the South West’s best kept secrets; a well-connected, thriving and diverse town with a dynamic economy that ranks as the 8th strongest in the country. We are also one of the UK’s fastest growing towns and cities, with an unrivalled track record for delivering growth and progress.

We are looking for a Commercial Property Manager. It’s a chance to operate on a scale that you will find in few other local authorities. Our commercial and operational property asset base is valued at £537m (an increase of some £25M following commercial investment acquisitions during 2018/19) and £8.5m in annual revenue. It’s a significant platform on which the Council can build and a resource that has greatly enhanced our overall financial resilience.

You’ll work to ensure that the Council benefits from the highest standards of professional advice in relation to the management and development of its significant commercial property portfolio – balancing immediate needs with longer term strategic planning. You’ll offer expert advice to senior leadership and elected members on all property related matters ensuring we anticipate and manage risk effectively and that our decision making process is robust and well informed.

It is essential that you are a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors with significant post qualification experience and knowledge of project management techniques.  We expect that you will bring a proven track record from within the property sector with practical experience of managing a commercial portfolio. Your technical skills should be enhanced by wider leadership abilities and you will manage a small team.

The right candidate will have an important contribution to make by identifying opportunities to utilise our property assets in different ways, to deliver a better revenue return, or to meet the needs of our community more effectively. In return for your talents we offer you host of benefits including:

  • Flexible working
  • 25 days holiday
  • Free car parking at our central Swindon campus
  • A career average revalued earnings (CARE) pension scheme
  • Leisure Discounts / Legal Services discounts
  • Eating Out, Shopping and Entertainment discounts

Candidates must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act – for the effective performance of a customer-facing role).

If you feel you could bring your passion, skills, experience and boundless enthusiasm to this exciting role we would love to hear from you – it’s time to Switch on to Swindon!
