Our Leaving Care service is one of the Nation’s biggest and supports care experienced young adults in their transition from care to independence.
Our priority is to support and enable care experienced young adults to realise their aspiration and ambition and have a sense of feeling cared for, cared about and able to care for themselves. Champion their voice as Corporate Parents I all that we do.
With the implementation of the statutory duty to support care leavers up to the age of 25 and also to support care leavers who may be at risk homelessness or identified as rough sleeping, using government grant funding we wish to enhance our service capacity with the recruitment of the following posts fixed term posts.
A commitment to a systemic, strength, relationship and solution focused practice model that contextualise the needs of care leavers through a trauma informed / adverse childhood experiences lens is essential.
The role of the Personal Advisor (At Risk of Homelessness & Rough Sleepers) is a new role wholly funded through Government grant funding as an integral component of the Government’s rough sleeping strategy.
In this role you will support care leavers who are at high risk of homelessness/rough sleeping and who are already homeless to provide a coordinate package of support on the agenda of both prevention and relief.
You will work with care leavers aged 18 – 25 who are identified as being at highest risk of rough sleeping or rough sleeping. You will work with a wide variety of other professionals in housing and accommodation providers as well as other professions such as those from TESS / FTB / DWP and any other local networks. Securing support from the care leaver’s network of friends and family will also be just as important.
You will need experience of working with care leavers who have been homeless or at risk of rough sleeping and have a good knowledge and understanding of homelessness legislation in order to advocate for and support young people. Knowledge of accommodation pathways for people who are at risk of rough sleeping would be essential as well as your confidence and ability to liaise with professionals and friends/family.
You will need to demonstrate an appreciative, strength and solution focused approach to provide an intensive response and coordinated response to ensure that any care leaver at risk of rough sleeping can access appropriate accommodation.
You will need to be able to work on your own initiative as well as collaboratively with individuals, families, carers, communities, colleagues and other agencies and have strong influencing, persuading and resilience skills. In addition you’ll need to work to deadlines, often under competing work pressures. The role also requires accurate recording to be kept for which you’ll need to be competent using electronic recording systems with good IT skills.
