This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled and enthusiastic Social Work professional wishing to develop & work in a fast paced assessment team environment with equally fast paced timescales who has good risk assessment skills.
You will need to be registered with the HCPC (Social Work England), and be proactive in developing your professional development through many opportunities with the service. You will be in a supported team consisting of other Social Workers and have guidance from an Advanced Practitioner and a knowledgeable line manager. You will undertake single assessments and child protection enquiries within statutory time scales. You will ensure that children & families are at the centre of your practice and their views are properly embedded in all aspects of assessments and plans.
You will bring experience of delivering child-centred practice, have excellent assessment skills & a good knowledge of legislation and current practice. You will have a clear understanding of safeguarding issues, what risk is for a child and knowledge of the type of response needed by Children's Services and other agencies to ensure children’s needs are being met and risk is safely managed.
Experience of working in a multi-agency setting is desirable. You will have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to liaise with families and professionals and will have a clear understanding and awareness of confidentiality, information sharing, data protection & Information governance.

As well as one to one supervision, since 2018 we have provided our staff with Reflexive peer group supervision. We are dedicated in providing a safe space for our staff to explore the emotional impact of their work. Reflexive supervision helps staff to develop effective coping strategies, decrease burnout and reduce the potential of developing secondary trauma. We recognise that by investing into our staff we improve the outcomes for children and families.
- Have a clear understanding of Child Protection procedures and processes.
- Be accountable for own workload and arising issues, ensuring individual & team performance is maintained and addressed.
- Be creative and able to prioritise & deal with several issues at once & have excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
- Have excellent IT skills being able to use excel, word & other IT data bases and go from one to the other with ease.
- Have excellent accurate written skills, & the ability to write reports and present information in a clear and concise way.
The work is varied and challenging, and there is a strong team approach ensuring good support for the successful applicant. The role requires lone working, use of initiative and a commitment to team working and service user empowerment. You will need to have a flexible approach and a solid understanding & experience of Statutory Social Work Role, risk assessment and planning.
- Regular good quality 1-1 case and personal supervision that align to restorative principles. You will also have to opportunity to engage in Reflexive group supervision provided by therapeutically trained practitioners
- Be provided with an excellent induction period and personal development plan that meets your training and development needs. You will have membership to Research in Practice as well as access to an internal resource library.
- Paid a competitive salary – in the range of £33,799 - £37,849 (SCP 31-35)
- Additional £2000 per annum market supplement - only applicable to those who have passes their ASYE year.

You will be based within Southampton city centre in the Civic Centre historical building within easy reach of a range of colleagues also based in the building. We are currently renovating our work spaces & plans include, a variety of new furniture, break-out areas and investment into a relaxation and multi faith room.
Your work office base is central to parking provided in a central location, good transport links including Train, Coach and Buses & a number of parks are within walking distance and a variety of shops, music venues, galleries, museums, universities and eating outlets are close by. Southampton is known as the cruise capital of Europe as well as the closest City to the New Forest.
