Cannock Chase District lies at the northern edge of the West Midlands conurbation and possesses a unique blend of urban and rural landscapes including a large part of the Cannock Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The District has experienced significant employment, housing and retail growth in recent years. The current review of the Cannock Chase Local Plan is seeking to produce a new local plan that will accommodate further sustainable growth. This growth will have to be balanced against the need to protect and retain the District’s many natural and built assets, consider climate change objectives and also needs emanating from the wider West Midlands conurbation. To facilitate this process we are seeking a talented Chartered Town Planner to assist the Planning Policy Manager in taking forward the Local Plan Review by driving forward key areas of work leading to the preparation and adoption of the new plan.

Cannock Chase District offers a supportive working environment and opportunities to develop new skills and abilities that will enhance personal and professional development to progress your career.

The ideal candidate will have significant post qualification experience of working in a planning environment, excellent negotiation skills and a flexible approach to work. You should be experienced in dealing with complex planning policy matters and able to articulate information clearly, both written and verbal, to Members, professionals and non-professionals in a variety of settings.

Experience of procuring professional advice and/or advisors to inform background documents and evidence that supports policy will be an essential part of the role.

Through your detailed knowledge of legislation and guidance relating to local and neighbourhood plan processes, you will guide and manage a small team of planning professionals to deliver an effective planning policy service. Knowledge and experience of urban design or heritage/conservation would also be advantageous.

In addition you should have a degree in planning or related subject and be IT literate in the use of Microsoft Office packages such as Word and Excel.
