Job Description

Are you looking for a great place to work that embraces innovation and encourages performance? In this role, you can expect variety and autonomy to shape your work and environment in ways that allow you to perform at your best.

Richmond and Wandsworth Councils have ambitious plans to make a real difference to the lives of people in both boroughs. We have created a unique organisation that focuses on creative service design and new ways of working in a positive and supportive working culture. We work together across services and boundaries inside and outside the Council to deliver vital public services.

As part of the Environmental and Community Services senior management team, you will enable us to continue to build on our success and also bring new experience, knowledge and ideas.

Your style and approach will reflect our values:

  • Being open

  • Being supportive

  • Being positive and helpful

You will need to bring both your experience and fresh perspectives to solve practical problems to drive forward service improvement.

You will deliver corporate budget planning and forecasting, financial management and statutory accounts. You will also be responsible for managing the departmental business support team delivering transactional services, accounts payable and receivable. You will lead, motivate and support colleagues to achieve key service objectives, outcomes and deadlines.

You will ensure strong financial stewardship, understanding the impact of statutory and regulatory frameworks and ensuring that these are reflected in the way the council operates. You will review financial processes and seek to identify, develop, plan and implement change strategies within the service.

You will be CCAB Qualified, part-Qualified CCAB with relevant experience or AAT qualified with significant relevant experience and outstanding technical skills to allow you to take lead responsibility in a principal, corporate accountant role.

You will be welcomed into a friendly environment where your personal and professional development will be encouraged. You will have the opportunity to work and grow in a values-based organisation that promotes a culture of empowerment.

Your work-life balance and wellbeing are important to us, so we can offer you working arrangements that will enhance your work-life balance.  These include compressed hours, home working (dependent on service need), part-time working, annualised hours, and a generous holiday allowance of 31 days plus bank holidays.

In addition, we offer a range of staff benefits including, membership of the Local Government contributory pension scheme, childcare vouchers, new technology scheme, interest-free loans on annual travel cards, discounts at many leisure activities, restaurants, shops and other establishments. A wide range of career development opportunities is also offered.

Please submit your CV together with a supporting statement detailing why you are applying for the post and how you meet each of the criteria set out in the person specification. The closing date for applications is midnight on Sunday 8th December 19.

If you would like an informal discussion regarding the role, please contact Kevin Power, Deputy Director of Environment and Community Services 0208 871 6704.
