Job Title: Health Improvement Specialist
Location: Stevenage (with Regular Travel to other Bases)
Salary Range: £31,371 pa Progressing to £33,799 pa (pro rata for part-time)
Hours: 19 hours per week
Contract: 12 months Fixed Term/Secondment Contract
The Public Health team commissions a wide range of services to improve the health of Hertfordshire residents including weight management, sexual health services, stop smoking services, NHS Health Checks, health improvement for children and young people, and health protection. The Health Improvement Service work on a wide variety of projects ranging from major procurement exercises to service improvement and behaviour change initiatives.
About the role
We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced innovative and passionate staff to work within its team as a Health Improvement Specialist. The successful applicant will have a “can-do” attitude, excellent communication and influencing skills, be a good team player and will uphold Hertfordshire County Council values and behaviours.
The Health Improvement Specialist is responsible for providing evidence-based advice, training and support to community-based health improvement services and NHS Health Check providers, core-clinic advisors, and other community and healthcare workers. They will be responsible for a small caseload of service users requiring intensive counselling to facilitate and support healthy behaviour change across a range of health improvement, including weight management, stop smoking, physical activity and the delivery of the NHS Health Check programme.

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal and the ability to maintain confidentiality will be key strengths.
You will be a reliable multi tasker, able to work on a variety of different tasks at any one time, prioritising your work and managing tight deadlines.
You will be competent and confident user of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Outlook.
Some evening and weekend work will be required to meet the needs of the service and clients.
