The role

Southwark Council is changing the face of our health and safety function by modernising our processes, centralising our teams and standardising our approach. We are at the start of a new and exciting journey and are looking for two dynamic and passionate Health and Safety Managers to help us.

You will join us on the start of this journey and be part of a newly formed, centralised team of health and safety professionals who will support a nominated department whilst sharing best practice and helping us deliver health and safety for the future. The workplace is modernising, health and safety is too; Southwark are installing a new health and safety software package to raise our health and safety profile in the workplace and to improve how we manage, report and monitor our health and safety performance.

Do you want to be part of something different? If so we want to hear from you. It's challenging and interesting work and we want proactive managers to help us develop and complete a team that provides a modern oversight and strategic management support across all aspects of the health and safety spectrum.

As a lead departmental health and safety manager, you will also work closely with the Head of Health and Safety to develop a deep understanding of a complex multi-dimensional business; you will deliver bespoke training programmes, provide annual and periodic reports to strategic management teams and senior managers, and also support the Head of Health and Safety with continued modernisation of the health and safety function.

About you

Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent qualification in a health and safety management discipline, hold or be working towards Chartered Membership of the Institute of Occupation Safety and Health and have considerable experience of delivering health and safety in the public sector or a similar environment.

You will have excellent stakeholder management skills, be visible, proactive, pragmatic, and an excellent communicator.

We are looking for managers that seek out and implement best practice and have the gravitas to liaise with internal and external stakeholders while working across all levels in the council.
