Would you like an exciting opportunity to be part of the licensing team of Brighton & Hove Council working for a level 3 Business Administration apprenticeship.

Brighton & Hove City Council’s Environmental Health & Licensing Department have an exciting opportunity for a level 3 apprentice in Business Administration and Function Skills. The team is responsible for the licensing of alcohol licensed premises amongst many other things.  The licensing team is within the Environmental Health department that also provide administrative support for animal welfare, food safety, health & safety, pest control, pollution control, taxi licensing and trading standards but this post is predominantly for the administration of the Licensing Act 2003.

The Business Administration and Function Skills at level 3 is run by GBMET who is responsible for supporting you with your learning and carrying out assessments. The course has core modules to complete and a number of optional units. Your work experience will be linked to the modules and units in your course. You will receive additional support from a nominated mentor, throughout the duration of the Apprenticeship.

About the role

Apprentices will gain knowledge in:

  • Learn to provide professional Licensing advice and information to service users, signpost to other Council services, partners and external agencies and deliver an efficient licensing service, to improve the health and quality of life for those who live in, work in and visit the city.
  • Learn to provide technical support for Licensing (Alcohol) and Safer Communities.
  • Learn to give detailed technical advice to applicants, receive, check and validate applications, input into computerised system, prepare, check and issue licences (alcohol and entertainment premises licences). To check and examine applications for Transfers, Designated Premises Supervisor (DPS) variations, new licence applications and variations to existing licences  to ensure standards are met, preparing reports, memos, recommendations and referrals as necessary.
  • Learn to provide complex technical advice and information in line with major legislative changes.

Apprentices without evidence of level 2 English and Maths will need to achieve this level prior to completing training and you may be required to take an English and Maths assessment prior to a formal offer being made.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.
