The Local Government Association speaks with one voice on behalf of local government. Made up of elected representatives from all the different political parties, we aim to set the political agenda and have our say in the national media on the issues that matter to council members. There has never been a more exciting time to work for us.
The LGA pension’s team works with and on behalf of the administering authorities of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) in England and Wales and provides advice and support to the Local Government Pension Schemes in Scotland and Northern Ireland. To be part of this team is to be a vital element in the legislative and administrative framework of the largest funded pension scheme in the UK.
Reporting directly to the Head of Pensions, you will lead on the development and implementation of an extended service to LGPS Scotland. You will provide clear, high quality guidance to Scottish administering authorities, as well as to employers and scheme members in Scotland. You will provide timely and effective responses to queries and develop guidance in relation to the interpretation and implementation of existing and forthcoming scheme regulations and related legislative developments.
You will have extensive pension knowledge as well as experience and credibility to help us ensure an affordable, sustainable and comprehensible pension scheme continues to be available to the millions of employees, former employees and pensioners who rely on it for their future security.
We are looking for a technician who puts the customer first; a strong communicator who understands the workings of the scheme and can work in a fast-paced environment and with other experts to provide clarity in a very complex subject area.
This role will provide you with a chance to use your skills on the national stage. You will work regularly with a wide range of council officers, employee representatives and central government officials as well as liaising across the LGA, SPPA and COSLA.
The position is full time and can be either office or home based. The role will require travel around the UK as well as occasional attendance at meetings in London for which, depending on location, all appropriate expenses will be met.
