£21,169 per annum for 36 hours per week based at Surrey History Centre, 130 Goldsworth Road, Woking, GU21 6ND.
This is a 6 month fixed term contract to cover maternity leave.

About the role
Caring for and assisting people to use our unique holdings of archives and local studies collections is at the heart of the work of Surrey History Centre, the home of Surrey Heritage. As a member of our team of document assistants, you will be responsible, on a rota basis, for producing historic documents and books to users of the Centre. Other duties will include the cleaning and packaging of new additions to the archive, responding to a broad range of enquiries from the general public (both in-person and via email) and processing public orders for digital images or photocopies of documents.
The position will involve considerable manual handling and using ladders to access high shelving. You must be able to follow detailed instructions closely and use computer systems. You will need to possess a good standard of education, impressive attention to detail and strong craft skills, plus a passion for history and preserving the past. The post would be suitable for those seeking the experience of working in an archive environment with a view to proceeding to undertake a professional archival qualification.
