About the role

We have part time Weekend Library Network Assistant positions available, working six hours every Saturday in these North Surrey libraries: Ashford, Egham, Hersham (5 hours), Shepperton (3 hours), Staines, Walton on Thames and Weybridge.

Although based at a specific library, you will also work regularly at other nearby libraries, and will travel to other locations to support the wider library network as required.
Surrey is one of the largest county councils in the UK and has over 50 libraries across the county. Our library teams deliver a range of services to all members of the public. Times have changed since all that libraries offered was books and access to a reference collection. Now, in addition to lending books and providing a range of online reference resources, we also hold computer classes, Rhymetimes and Storytimes, and various other events such as Minecraft sessions and Code Clubs. We are able to offer a range of services, including library services for the elderly or disabled.

Your daily duties will include but not be limited to:
- Assist with enquiries as required
- Take part in Rhymetime and Storytime
- Support library events as required, e.g. craft session
- Ensure borrower records are kept up to date
- Working at other branches within the local area
We are looking for the following key skills from potential applicants:
- Knowledge of using Microsoft Office packages
- Ability to use initiative and work under pressure with accuracy
- A basic understanding of working in a library
- Confidence and resilience
- Positive working attitude towards training and development
