The Weller Centre is a local community centre, it was remodelled, substantially rebuilt and re-opened two years ago. The management of the centre is a joint venture between The Earley Charity and Reading Borough Council.
The activities at the Centre cover youth, wellbeing, the outdoors and employment programmes in an area with high levels of social deprivation.
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and experienced Clerk to the Management Team.
About The Centre:
The Weller Centre, 110 Amersham Road, Reading RG4 5NA, is a local community centre in an area with high levels of social deprivation. It was remodelled, substantially rebuilt and re-opened two years ago.
The management of the centre is a joint venture between the leaseholder, The Earley Charity, and the freeholder, Reading Borough Council. All ultimate management responsibilities now fall to the Earley Charity. The activities at the Centre cover youth, wellbeing, the outdoors and employment programmes.
You will facilitate the effective governance of the Weller Centre by recording the proceedings of various formal Weller Centre meetings. The Weller Centre Advisory Board meets 4 times a year, (three of the meetings are usually held in the evening at the Centre and one on a Saturday in June) and the Weller Centre Management Team meets up to ten meetings a year usually on a Wednesday afternoon.
In particular you will:
1. Facilitate all aspects of the governance of the Centre by:
a) Providing administrative support for committees and meetings as required including taking minutes and circulating agenda in a timely way
b) Working with the Centre Facilities Manager, circulating monthly, quarterly and annual accounting reports as required
c) Working with the Centre Facilities Manager, circulating statistics of use of the centre and other performance data on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis as required
d) Keeping up to date lists of representatives on the Advisory Board
e) Facilitating all aspects of the governance of the Weller Centre, reporting to the Community Learning and Outreach Manager
2. Support the governance of the Weller Centre practically by:
a) Ensuring that meeting rooms are regularly booked and properly laid out for meetings
b) Keeping files (paper and digital) up to date and properly archived on the Weller Centre systems
c) Effectively using Microsoft products and email systems
1. Strong IT skills
2. Demonstrated organisational skills and ability to plan and deliver workload
3. Demonstrated communication skills, both verbal and written, including the ability to draft complex proceedings
4. Self-motivated, enthusiastic and able to work independently on own initiative, whilst being an effective member of the team
