Are you a qualified social worker with experience of working with children and families? Are you passionate about working with children looked after?
This is an exciting opportunity to join a supportive and experienced Fostering Team, as a full-time Supervising Social Worker, providing a high level of support to our foster carers, often dealing with very complex situations.
It can be a highly pressurised working environment, but one which brings great rewards, as we see our children grow and develop, and begin to heal from their trauma. You will also be rewarded by seeing our carers increase their skills, knowledge and confidence.
All our staff, managers, foster carers and supported lodgings hosts receive training based around Dyadic Developmental Practice, attachment theory and the secure base model. We offer our carers a variety of different support groups, and you will be expected to play a part in these. North Somerset Council is working towards becoming a trauma informed organisation.
We work hard to assist and support our carers to develop their skills in using the therapeutic re-parenting model, using PACE (playfulness, acceptance, curiosity and empathy). We also use the Signs of Safety framework. North Somerset Council places a high value on providing excellent opportunities for training and development for everyone involved in the care and support of our most vulnerable children, young people and care leavers.
Your primary focus will be to fulfil all statutory obligations associated with the fostering task, such as completing annual reviews, unannounced visits, maintaining a high standard of record keeping and ensuring that our foster carers receive the highest standards of support, including routine and regular reflective supervision. Ultimately, you will ensure that our children looked after are receiving the highest possible standards of care.
We are excited to be piloting the Mockingbird Family Model of fostering, supported by the Fostering Network. This is an innovative project which we hope to roll out across the whole service in due course. This model enhances support for foster carers and improves placement stability for our children and young people. Funding for this development is provided by a grant from the Home Office – Trusted Relationships.
You will be based in the Town Hall in Weston-Super-Mare. You will be available for occasional and planned evening and weekend work.
