MoneyWorks was developed and launched exclusively for Newham residents. The service supports residents by improving their financial wellbeing and ending their reliance on financial product that typically come with high lending fees. MoneyWorks forms part of the financial wellbeing pillar of the Councils work on Community Wealth Building.

Since opening MoneyWorks approach has transitioned from a focus on loans to a holistic approach putting our residents at the heart of everything we do. The service helps residents facing financial hardship to meet their financial obligations fairly and efficiently by looking at their complete situation to determine the most appropriate course of action.

We are now seeking to recruit a MoneyWorks Senior Advice Officer (Debt and Benefits) to the MoneyWorks team.  We are looking for a creative person, skilled and knowledgeable in the debt and benefits arena, who is persuasive, compassionate and who can demonstrable an understanding of debt and benefits information, advice and guidance and money management.  They will need to be good communicators, confident and very motivated with substantial previous experience in debt and benefits advice, customer service, and financial management.

£33,945 - £36,711 pa 

Working Hours: Full Time

Location: MoneyWorks Stratford

The overall purpose of the Job is to supervise and co-ordinate delivery of a face to face debt and benefits advice service for Newham residents who are unable to self-help using the Council’s and linked web resources, either because they do not have the personal capacity to do so or because of the complexity of the issues.  Providing free, impartial, confidential debt advice on priority and non-priority debts. Helping residents to understand the options that are available to them, supporting them to set up repayment plans with their creditors and signposting to other agencies where specialist advice is needed.

With the aim at enabling clients to improve their economic resilience wherever possible. Ensure that the service delivers advice in line with its policy of encouraging and supporting clients to:

  • Self-help wherever possible, both immediately and in the future
  • Improve their economic situation and financial capability
  • Help residents to regain control of their finances

The successful candidate will have the following skills and experience:

•Experience of directly managing a customer-focused front-line advice service, in the public, private or voluntary sector, with  the ability to develop and implement effective service strategies that promote continuous service improvement.

•Substantial and recent experience of providing benefits advice casework and debt advice casework, at a specialist level, with a demonstrable understanding of legislation relevant to benefits advice and an awareness of the barriers to seeking advice among different cultures

•Substantial experience of providing benefits advice casework (including creditor practices ) at a specialist level.

•Good interpersonal skills, Sound interviewing skills, work well under pressure & be able to motivate clients to improve their own economic situation

•Experience of producing  IAG/web content, delivering training, events, campaigns
