Planning Officer (12 month contract)
Salary - £25,877 to £35,298 per annum plus essential car user allowance
An opportunity has arisen within the Development Management team for the appointment of a planning officer within our experienced and busy section for a 12 month period. The officer will be a key part of the planning process, ensuring applications are processed in line with Council policies and Government targets.
The successful applicants will need to visit sites, carry out consultations, provide informal advice and information through a range of communication channels and to manage a wide-ranging caseload of planning and related applications. The post would suit someone currently within planning seeking to broaden their experience, but applications may also be accepted from graduates looking to start out their career. The position is full time, however, we would consider a part time appointment for the right candidate.
A first degree is essential, preferably in planning or a related subject leading to MRTPI, or with a commitment to obtaining a planning qualification.
Knowledge of relevant environmental issues, excellent communication skills, organisation skills, a commitment to customer care, computer literacy and the ability to stay calm under pressure are essential. Ideally, we are looking to appoint someone with experience of development management gained either with a local authority or in the private sector, but we will equally consider the right candidate who is at the start of their planning career.
We are a good performing authority which is seeking to drive performance further and continue to deliver improvements across the service. We are seeking appointments to help move this forward with driven and focussed individuals. It is an exciting time at Guildford with a recently adopted local plan and is a key moment for planning in Guildford which is a major town in the South East of England. The Council is currently undergoing a transformation project and this temporary role is required to ensure service delivery through the review period and assist with setting our long term establishment.
The role is located in our attractive riverside offices close to Guildford Town Centre, a short walk from the station. As a Council, we offer many employee benefits including a career average earnings pension scheme, childcare vouchers, generous annual leave and flexible working scheme and a good work life balance
If you require further information on the role please contact Dan Ledger, Development Management Team Leader on 01483 444612 or firstname.lastname@example.org
A Driving licence valid to drive in the UK and use of own transport during working hours in order to carry out site visits is required.
A Basic Disclosure security check will be requested for the successful applicant prior to appointment.
Closing date for applications is: Friday 15th November 2019
