We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Payroll Officer to join our small and friendly payroll team on a temporary basis for up to 12 months to provide cover for maternity leave. This is an excellent opportunity to join South Yorkshire Pensions Authority; we’re a growing public sector organisation employing around 100 staff who run the workplace pension scheme on behalf of a large number of employing organisations, including Local Authorities and other public bodies, educational institutions and a number of charitable organisations.

The work of the payroll team is central to achieving the objective of paying our pensioner members on time and accurately. As a Payroll Officer, you will prepare and process monthly, quarterly, six-monthly and annual payrolls for our Pensioner members and their dependants as well as the monthly payroll for the Authority’s staff. The team has a busy and varied workload including dealing with telephone enquiries from the pension scheme members and liaising with colleagues from other teams across the organisation.

We’re looking for someone who is already experienced and knowledgeable in payroll work. With an aptitude for numbers, good IT skills and a strong attention to detail, you’ll also have great customer service skills, the ability to stay calm under pressure and to work to tight deadlines.

The successful applicant will be able to perform manual calculations and will be conversant with current HMRC Legislation governing PAYE and the submission of RTI Data through the Government Gateway.

Ideally, you will hold a Level 3 qualification and/or a payroll qualification and we require a minimum of 4 GCSEs including Maths and English (Grades 9 to 4 / A* to C) or an equivalent level qualification in a relevant subject area.

Knowledge of the Civica UPM Payroll System would be an advantage but is not essential for the candidate with the right experience as system training will be provided.
