Following a redesign of the Planning Service, an exciting opportunity has arisen with a new post of Majors and Environmental Team Manager. The post will lead and manage a busy team of planners and administrative support dedicated to dealing with major applications and a team of specialists, including conservation, biodiversity and arboricultural officers. The post is also responsible for the administration of all planning appeals.
Stroud District Council covers an area of 175 square miles and has an exceptionally diverse physical, historic and natural environment offering infinite variety and interest. Over 50% of the district is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The Council is preparing it’s updated local plan, which seeks to provide 12,800 new houses within the district by 2040. It also has a significant number of large developments online in accordance with the currently adopted local plan.
While ensuring that all decisions are made in a timely manner, the new post holder will also play a pivotal role in raising standards of design for new development across the district and in helping the service become self-financing.
We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and committed planner with excellent customer service and communication skills. You will have your own caseload comprising the more complex applications, be able to work under pressure to tight deadlines and coach the staff under you to continuously raise standards.
We are looking for an individual who is a chartered member of the RTPI with a recognised degree in planning, with substantial practical working experience at a senior level. Local authority experience is desirable but not essential, however, a robust up to date knowledge and understanding of legislation, planning policy and case law is imperative. The post holder will be required to act as expert witness on behalf of the Council at Public Inquiries.
