Finding solutions to serious youth violence and young people’s involvement in gangs cannot be solved by one agency. This is why Croydon is tackling Gangs and Serious Youth Violence through 'Croydon Connected', our multi-agency gang’s team comprised of Police, YOS, Probation, Youth Support Services and Voluntary Sector partners.
Gangs Prevention Project Worker - Grade 9/10, £33,291- £36, 711
Fixed Term Contract to April 2021
Based in the YOS, you will be part of Croydon’s multi agency Gangs Team working with police, probation, 3rd sector and other key partners. You will work directly with young people, their families and their peers, in an individual or group setting, to address identified areas of risk and vulnerability associated with gang in a bid to divert young people away from this lifestyle.
You will undertake assessments to identify criminogenic need, and will implement effective, innovative and creative Intervention Plans aimed at improving protective factors to reduce gang affiliation and violence.
Experience of designing and delivering group work to prevent offending is essential. These programmes will be delivered in a community and schools setting.
You will work in partnership across agencies to share and assess information in a timely way, and you will be expected to maintain accurate and up-to-date records of work undertaken with young people. You will offer advisory support about Croydon gangs and serious youth violence to Council and non-Council services. Part of your role will be to provide multi-agency gangs awareness training to fellow professionals, in order to build capability and capacity in tackling serious youth violence and group offending.
You will need to have substantial recent experience and a solid track record of direct work with gang-involved young people, and knowledge and understanding of legislation relevant to young offenders. You will need to be able to work flexibly with some evenings and weekends required.
