Head of Housing Needs, Advice & Support

Ref: 2700 - 3338

Salary: Band 14 - £57,524 - £63,380 p.a.

37 hours per week

Permanent

Are you an inspirational, forward-thinking leader with the ability to create a vision of what a perfect local authority housing service would look like? Do you have experience of working as a senior manager in a housing environment, and the ability to motivate and empower a team to work in an ever-changing environment while delivering key positive outcomes?

Portsmouth is a city rich in history and culture, being the home to the Royal Navy and the birthplace of Charles Dickens.  It is also a modern city which is transforming to meet the needs of the 21st Century. In short it is an exciting place to live and work, and the local authority is at its heart.  Being one of the most densely populated parts of the country outside of London, housing is an important issue for the 200,000+ residents who live here.

We are looking for an exceptional candidate to take on this exciting opportunity to join our Housing, Neighbourhood & Building Services service (previously called Housing Options), to lead the management of the service, delivering responsive and effective services to those who need support in finding a home. We are the gateway to all social housing within the city and the Portsmouth City Council-owned properties in the Havant area, and are delivering a range of front line services, including waste management, building maintenance and housing services.

Candidates will be knowledgeable in housing and homelessness legislation, and ideally experienced in its application.  They will also be experienced in the leadership and development of a highly skilled team.

Working for a unitary local authority, the successful candidate will enjoy the benefits of being part of a senior management team with access to a wide peer group across the full range of city council services including adult social care and children's social care. This provides a fantastic opportunity for joint working and to ensure that our housing options service, under your leadership, plays its part in meeting the city council's priorities. Strong candidates are likely to have experience of working closely with a wide range of external partners and councillors.

It's a challenging but enjoyable environment and we pride ourselves on our team spirit and ability to get things done.  This role is pivotal in achieving good quality and continually improving services.  If you feel that you have the skills, knowledge and experience for the role then we look forward to hearing from you.

A relocation package may be offered for the right candidate.
