Salary: Grade K, £49,464 to £54,597 per annum
Appointment Type: Fixed term - 18 months
Job Term: Full Time
Location: Guildhall 2, Kingston
A key objective of our corporate plan ‘Making Kingston Better, Together’ is to create a Cleaner, Greener borough. In Kingston, we maintain 31 parks and open spaces, as well as 24 playgrounds across the borough. We want good quality, accessible and attractive green spaces that bring major benefits for the environment and the health and wellbeing of our residents. We are offering an exciting opportunity to help shape and deliver this ambition.
Our current contractual arrangements for grounds maintenance and arboricultural services come to an end on February 2021. This role will be responsible for delivering the recommissioning of these services, ensuring that our residents and established friends groups are fully engaged and able to shape our strategy and service delivery. This is an opportunity for us to review the current processes and priorities in place and establish what works, what doesn't and what might need to change. Due to limited resources, we must ensure that our finances are focused on delivering what is most important to our local residents.
As part of our ongoing work to improve and enhance our green spaces we are investing £1.3million in our borough’s parks through our Community Parks Programme and we aim to secure additional external funding to enhance the programme to date. This scheme will deliver improvements in play, sports and other infrastructure to ensure our parks are fit for purpose and accessible for all. The current programme runs to March 2021. Our new Green Spaces Development Team will also oversee this programme, working closely with the local community and contractors in the design and delivery of schemes to ensure they meet local needs.
Alongside these key programmes, Kingston aims to further grow and develop the fantastic work that our local communities already do to support nature conservation and maintenance in our parks and other areas and ensure that our strategies for the future align with priorities around air quality and climate change.
About the role
The right person for this role will have a passion for green spaces and delivering positive outcomes for local people and the environment; with experience of engaging a wide range of partners to deliver in this area. Strong project management with a track record of delivery is also essential as is experience of service design, commissioning and contract management.
This is an eighteen-month fixed term role, to align with the delivery of the new contract arrangements and current funding arrangements for the Community Parks Programme. It will be supported by a project officer, a biodiversity officer and members of the established Contracts Service as required.
