Role Purpose

Tower Hamlets Council is seeking a full time Senior Communication Officers to cover one of the most exciting portfolios in the UK.

This role will lead communications for our Children’s and Culture Directorate.

You will have plenty to work with. Tower Hamlets has one of the youngest populations in the country and our Children’s Services have recently been awarded a ‘good’ rating by Ofsted.

Our borough combines some of the best cultural and visitor destinations in the UK. They include the Tower of London, Canary Wharf and Brick Lane, major festivals and events including All Points East and the London Marathon, Victoria Park, voted the best park in London, and one the country’s most diverse and culturally rich populations. In addition, our Ideas Stores, leisure centres and children’s centres welcome over 4m people a year.



Key Responsibilities

We want you to tell our story to stakeholders and media, deliver campaigns and stakeholder engagement that change behaviour and raise awareness, and build our audiences and digital channels through excellent content and evaluation.

As a manager, you will also support, develop and inspire those around you, so you should already have experience of working in a busy communications team. Management experience is desirable.

Our award winning Communications service is at the heart of the council’s modernisation. We want exceptional people who can help to improve the lives of our residents and businesses.

Requirements

You will have a good knowledge of media contacts, campaigns and strategic communications planning, with research and evaluation at its core. You will know how to develop and tell a compelling story to people including the media.You will also know how to get our messages across to our audiences so they can benefit from our services and those of our partners in order to improve their lives.

You will need to form excellent working relationships with relevant departments and have a can do attitude to help the communications team to win more awards.

You will be expected to operate the out of hours phone on a rota basis and help oversee the rota itself.
