Runnymede Borough Council operates four working cemeteries and arranges around 150 burials a year. We currently have a vacancy for a manager to run the Cemeteries service, both in terms of the day to day operations and the longer term development of the service
Based at the Orchard Centre in Chertsey, you would lead a small team that is responsible for the administration and management of all interments and your work will involve liaison with the bereaved and with funeral directors. You will need to demonstrate a sensitive and professional approach in all that you do. You will also oversee the work of contractors, ensuring that all interments take place in a safe and timely manner and in accordance with the wishes of the bereaved.
The successful applicant will be diplomatic with excellent communication skills. You will be well organised and able to work under pressure at times. In addition, you will have previous experience in a similar role and will be able to use your own initiative and maintain accurate records.
Knowledge of burial regulations and relevant legislation would be desirable, as would a Diploma from the Institute of Cemetery and Cremation Management or a desire to work towards it.
