Do you want to make a difference to the lives of disabled children and their families?

We are looking for 2 highly motivated individuals to join our exciting new team based in our
Disabled Children’s Service and working with the professional network in Early Help to build
capacity to support children with additional needs & disabilities.

In Islington Children’s Services we use some key models to inform our practice. A
Motivational Practice Model, which provides a framework for working positively with
families to achieve the outcomes that matter to them. We also use Trauma-Informed
Practice, which provides a framework for understanding children’s developmental needs
and how their experiences are expressed through behaviour. Finally, we use a Positive
Behaviour Approach, which provides a strong value base for interventions and a framework
for analysing behaviour and supporting families to become more resilient.

We work in an integrated way across education, health & social care and are looking for
people who can work alongside Early Help practitioners to build skills and confidence in
supporting disabled children and their families to make the best start on their journey. We
welcome applications from individuals who have experience of working and communicating
with children and young people with disabilities undertaking direct work and delivering
training to both professionals and parents.

There will be great training opportunities in the models we use. For example, you will be
trained in Motivational Interviewing skills, which will support the development of
meaningful relationships and promote safety, collaboration and purposeful change. You will
also receive regular case supervision and support from an experienced practitioner to be
effective in your role. You will have access to specialist communication training methods
and the tools you need in your work.
