Our Revenues and Benefits Service is critical to our future success as it facilitates the billing and collection of Council Tax and Business Rates, as well as the assessment of benefit claims, ensuring that we achieve positive outcomes in a sensitive way.
In this role, you will help manage a large team that is responsible for the recovery of Council Tax and Overpaid Housing Benefit, with specific responsibility for providing direction and technical advice on the collection of some of our more challenging, and hard to recover debts in both of these areas of our work.
We are looking for someone with a proven track record of supervising a team, of excellent communication skills, and of being able to train and motivate the team to have difficult conversations with debtors, in order to establish the reasons for non-payment, and take the most appropriate action, given their circumstances. You will help inspire and encourage your team towards achieving excellent collection rates.
You will set high standards and see they’re delivered on, and you will manage formal complaints and resolve issues efficiently. You will be highly skilled in multi-tasking, as well as working in a fast-paced debt collection environment.
As a Revenues Team Leader, you will work towards being authorised as a Court Officer and will represent the Authority by presenting evidence in the Magistrates Court for cases of non-payment of Council Tax.
