An opportunity has arisen for an HR Consultant in our HR Advisory Team which is part of the Orbis partnership encompassing Brighton & Hove City Council, East Sussex County Council and Surrey County Council.  The purpose of this partnership is to deliver greater value for our councils, residents and customers by increasing efficiencies and exploiting the benefits of sharing people, resources and technology.

About the role 

You will be delivering a professional HR Advisory service primarily within Brighton & Hove City Council although on occasion you could support case work for customers in East Sussex County Council.  You will work within a large team of Consultants across the partnership providing advice and guidance and you may also provide advice to schools.

You will be working to build the capacity of line managers to resolve people management issues effectively and professionally within a busy and fast paced environment and these will include large change programmes, grievance, disciplinary and capability cases. It is important to us that we meet and strive to exceed where possible the expectations of our customers.   We are therefore looking for someone with excellent communication skills, personal resilience and the ability to build strong working relationships with customers whilst contributing to continuous evolution in quality and scope of services provided. In return, working in a large organisation, you will be benefit from exposure to a wide variety of work, which is strongly supported by an experienced team, which will enable excellent development opportunities.

​Key Skills Include:

  • Communicating effectively with customers, colleagues, partners, trade union representatives including providing professional challenge as appropriate, including the ability to quickly develop credibility and strong relationships with key stakeholders
  • Developing and delivering training and other targeted interventions as required.
  • Demonstrating a commitment to the Principles of Equalities and ensuring this is projected in all interactions.

Although this role involves working and collaborating as part of a large well-supported team you will be given the tools to work independently and flexibly as the business needs to allow you to deliver work to a high standard and to deliver high impact customer service.

There is 1 full time (37hrs) opportunity – Fixed Term for 12 months.

Permanent employees are eligible to apply for a secondment where they have:

held their current post for at least twelve months and a defined development need that may be met through the secondment or there is a defined organisational need that will be met via the secondment

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.

Work Permits: we may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Border Agency's Points-based Immigration System.
