Barnsley is changing and with a recently adopted Local Plan aimed at preserving what is special about the borough whilst also providing significant economic and housing growth opportunities, now is a great time to be joining our forward-thinking and dynamic Planning & Building Control Service.
In order to created fantastic, sustainable places it is necessary to ensure that the appropriate infrastructure is in place. The council already has a highly successful Section 106 programme that is delivering state of the art sports facilities, children’s play areas, walking and cycling routes, investment in local primary and secondary schools and much needed affordable housing. The Local Plan includes policies that provide further opportunities to secure planning gain. We have therefore created a new Section 106 Programme Manager to oversee this growing programme. The Programme Manager will report to a Section 106 Strategic Panel comprising of senior councillors and officers who ensure that contributions are allocated to projects that reflect the council’s wider objectives, deliver the best value for money and have widespread community support.
The post holder will therefore have the opportunity to work with a range of stakeholders overseeing an exciting and transformational programme that will create a lasting legacy for our residents and businesses. In addition to the salary and range of other benefits available to employees of the Council, this role also includes a 10% recruitment payment initially for the first two years.
To succeed as the Section 106 Programme Manager, you should have a level 6 qualification (e.g. a degree) and have received programme/project management training. You should also possess significant project management experience. If you meet the essential criteria identified in the job profile and are relishing a new challenge within a forward-looking, ambitious authority then we’d love to hear from you.
