If you have experience working within a team in an office as well as the ability to input and update records on a computer, you may be the right person to work for us undertaking the administration of council tax billing and business rates.
You will be expected to support the service in maximising the collection and recovery of council tax and business rates. This will entail liaising with members of the public, other departments of the Council and other external agencies and organisations. Once you have gained sufficient experience you will be able to recognise and provide advice on reliefs, exemptions and discounts and will have responsibility for making decisions on liability, payment arrangements and refunds. An understanding of the basic principles of local taxation is not essential, but would be advantageous. Progression beyond the bar to the higher grade is dependent upon the ability to undertake all the duties contained in the job description.
You must have GCSE Maths and English Grade C (or equivalent qualification), or be able to demonstrate an equivalent level of numeracy and literacy acquired through work experience. This role involves regular telephone contact with the public, requiring fluent spoken English.
Wealden District Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults, and expects all employees and volunteers to share this commitment.
We offer an excellent package, including competitive salary, career average pension scheme, an employee benefit scheme offering a range of discounts and salary sacrifice schemes, flexitime and discounted leisure centre membership. As a flexible employer we are happy to consider some home working where possible on completion of training and the end of your probationary period.
This post is available as a job share if you are looking for part time hours.
