More about the role:

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Councils new Gypsy and Traveller Unit playing a critical role in helping the new Unit be as effective and efficient as possible.  The Unit is a dedicated front-line resource covering a broad range of Gypsy and Traveller taking a balanced approach to engagement, support, compliance and enforcement.  This area of work is both challenging and complex, but success delivers tangible, positive rewards and outcomes.

The Role

You will contribute to the strategic and operational development of the unit by creating and developing different ways of working in line with the Council’s corporate approach to managing Gypsy and Traveller issues in Central Bedfordshire.  You will act as the first point of contact for the Unit and you will manage and coordinate a range of programmes for the team as well as managing the collation of court/planning files for enforcement prosecutions making sure they meet the required evidential standards. 

You will have demonstrable experience of working in a busy and challenging team environment and ideally experience of working in an enforcement discipline. 

About You

You will have demonstrable experience of working in a busy team environment working under pressure.  You will be able to demonstrate your ability to manage a coordinate a range of programmes successfully and you will be able to prepare reports including performance information.  You will be able to show how you have implemented systems to improve efficiency and you will enjoy working in a small but very busy team.  Some of the issues you will face will need tenacity, empathy, patience and understanding.

You will need excellent communication, partnership and collaboration skills to work to resolve what can often be very challenging issues.  You will be committed to delivering high standards and have excellent attention to detail and you will be committed to delivering excellent customer service and enjoy working in a team focused on delivering tangible outcomes.
