Uttlesford District Council is looking for an Electoral Services Officer to join our team 37 hours per week, however part-time would also be considered (a minimum of 15 hours). The work pattern is flexible but must include Fridays.
Uttlesford is a thriving predominantly rural District in north-west Essex equal in size to half of Greater London, with international air (Stansted Airport), road and rail networks.
The principal role will be to maintain the register of electors and the associated property data base, process registration, absent vote and special category elector applications, and deal with all data production and distribution. The role will also involve helping to administer all elections and referendums and liaising as necessary with candidates, agents, election staff and parish councils.
The small but active electoral services team is part of a wider team dealing with all aspects of the Council’s democratic services functions supporting elected members.
Performing the role will involve some out of hours working depending on workload. This is likely to arise during elections and during other pressure points associated with electoral events such as compiling a new register.
Some previous experience in local government and of electoral administration is desirable but not essential. Suitable training opportunities will be provided. As well as the need to be trained in all aspects of electoral administration, specific training will be needed to operate the Idox Election Management System and the associated Selcheck signature checking software.
