This position is part of a brand new team within IT&D, developed to deliver end user Education Applications support alongside strategic and tactical projects. This is not entirely a technical role, ideal candidates will have demonstrable experience of working for education/children services, line management, technical skills and project management methodologies.
As Senior Application Specialist you will manage a team and work closely with application specialists, our customers, technical services and development teams to ensure speedy resolution of all issues. You must be extremely proficient in articulating with both technical and non-technical staff and users. Your role will be to ensure application functionality and system availability meet the requirements of the Children's Families and Learning directorate while ensuring that a high level of customer support is maintained.
The successful candidate will have a demonstrable track record of developing and supporting information management systems with a large user base. Proven experience of successful incident management, collaborative working on education or social care system developments (or other similar complex IT systems) with IT colleagues, service experts and third party suppliers is essential. The Applications Senior Specialist role requires you to be able to communicate with people, adapt to change and be willing to learn new skills with a proactive approach to planning and solution delivery.
Education Application Support team provides specialist support for mission critical education applications used across Surrey County Council. The team is part of wider Enterprise Applications Portfolio which supports and delivers complex applications across Surrey County Council, East Sussex and Brighton & Hove City Council.
The Education Application Support team's main function is to implement, manage and support internal and external customers of Capita One education system and any other new system acquired by education service. The team consists of Education Applications Team Leader, Senior Applications Specialist and two Application Specialists.

To be shortlisted to interview for this position your application will clearly evidence:
- Good understanding of ITIL framework
- Knowledge/experience of running 2nd line support desk
- Knowledge/experience of the One Education software (or Liquid Logic)
- Knowledge/experience of Local Authority Children's Services practices
- Knowledge/experience of supporting databases
- Knowledge of Oracle SQL
- Flexibility to work out of office hours and weekends occasionally
- Experience of leading on projects
- Experience of leading team
