About the Post:

Health, Safety and Environment Technician Apprentice


The Health, Safety and Emergency Resilience Service has an exciting new opportunity for an apprentice role working with our team in order to help keep people in the Council and wider borough safe. 

This is a fixed three year post with the opportunity to progress to a Technical Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (TechIOSH).  Technically skilled and adept, you will assist the team in advising on health, safety and environmental requirements.

Some of the skills you may possess should include:

• An interest in health and safety
• Ability to manage priorities and research and produce documents 
• Ability to communicate effectively
• Problem solving, identifying an issue and resolving it.

You must be willing to adapt and work independently but still be a critical part of the team and work closely with your colleagues.

You will need GCSE’s (A-C or 9-4) in mathmatics and English language at Grade C/4 or above, plus one of the following:

  • 3 additional GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above; or
  • Other level 2 qualification equivalent to 3 GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above

This apprenticeship includes an individual learning plan with key learning and development milestones for you to achieve. You will be allocated a workplace mentor(s) who will be responsible for offering advice, support and encouragement. They will also provide evaluation and challenge as well as help you to network with other Council colleagues, be an advocate and serve as a role model.

You will undertake the national Level 3 apprenticeship of Safety, Health and Environment Technician over the duration of the post.

We offer good practical experience of working in health and safety across a wide range of environments from construction/highways and education to social care and waste management.
