Barnsley Council’s IT Service plays a crucial role in supporting the delivery of services to the public. The Information Governance Team is central to supporting services and dedicated to the promotion and implementation of the Information Governance agenda across the Council.

Working in a challenging environment, you will be faced with a variety of competing priorities that will require a flexible and imaginative approach, combined with excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills. You will be dynamic and self-motivated with the ability to work as part of a team and independently. You will have significant experience of working within the area of Information Governance or data protection, and good awareness of GDPR. You will have a proven track record of development and leading initiatives demonstrating your self-improvement.

The postholder will be an enthusiastic and motivated individual with specialist knowledge and understanding of information governance and Data Protection requirements, the relevant legislative and regulatory frameworks.

 

The postholder will play a vital role in providing Information and Communication Technology (ICT) services to the Council and lead on the provision of specialist advice, guidance and awareness raising within the area of Information Governance.

 

The postholder will be able demonstrate:

 

  • experience of supporting, promoting and maintaining a culture of data protection throughout the Council and working with and influencing a wide range of stakeholders and staff groups;
  • experience of undertaking projects and interpreting and translating complicated initiatives and policies into new practices and developing policies and procedures to support the continuous development of the Council’s approach to data protection;
  • extensive experience of providing specialist advice and guidance across the Council (including Senior Information Risk Owner, Data Protection Officer, Caldicott Guardian and Information Governance Board) in relation to all aspects of compliance with Data Protection Legislation;
  • extensive experience of liaising with internal and external partners on data protection audits and lead on the implementation of audit recommendations (including Internal Audit and Information Commissioner’s Office);
  • experience of supporting, promoting and maintaining a culture of data protection throughout the Council and working with and influencing a wide range of stakeholders and staff groups;
  • positive and enthusiastic customer focussed approach with the ability to manage conflict situations and effectively resolve complex issues;
  • significant contribution towards policy development and implementation;
  • experience of undertaking, preparing and presenting detailed and complex reports/performance statistics and KPI’s to a variety of audiences; and
  • ability to keep abreast of technology and legislative changes in the information governance landscape; proactively disseminate relevant information to team members and colleagues across the Council.

 

The postholder will therefore be a highly motivated individual, with excellent communication, inter-personal and organisational skills and the ability to receive and communicate information accurately.
