ICT is responsible for the support and development of all Council computer, network, printing and telecommunication services. ICT work closely with all departments to help provide efficient cost effective services to the council through the best use of technology. ICT is led by the ICT Manager and consists of two teams, Operations and Development.
The post holder will be based in the Development team, which is responsible for the design and development of new and existing ICT including business software applications, data and communication networks and infrastructure services. The Development team also includes Geographic Information System (GIS) and street naming and numbering.
This role includes:
· Developing bespoke applications using a variety of programing languages.
· Troubleshooting existing business applications.
· Investigating user requirements to ensure future needs are met.
· Testing and deploying cloud technologies.
· Assisting with Council-wide projects to roll out new, modern systems
· Liaising with internal and external contacts to troubleshoot and improve systems.
· Working towards improving the baseline security of council ICT systems using modern technologies and techniques.
· The design, build and testing of network infrastructure such as virtual servers, firewalls and network switches.

Number of Positions available
£10,804.03 per annum, Apprentice Year One rate
37 hours per week, working Monday to Friday. Lancaster City Council does offer a flexi-leave scheme which you would be eligible for.
To complete your qualification, you will be required to attend college for one week out of every six weeks.
Annual Leave entitlement is 26 days plus bank holidays.
For applicants who may still currently be in their final year of full time education, the recruitment panel are open to the right candidate starting in July or August.
Length of apprenticeship
Up to 2 years.
Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, the post holder will be appointed to the permanent post of Development Assistant. The Development Assistant role is 37 hours per week on Grade 3 SCP 18 – 25, which is currently £18,870 - £23,111 per annum. The starting salary will be SCP 18, £18,870 per annum, the post holder with receive an increment on an annual basis until they reach the top of the grade.
You will have (or have been predicted) Grade C or above GCSEs (or equivalent) in English, Mathematics and it would be desirable for you to hold (or have been predicted) Grade C or above in GCSE IT (or equivalent). Excellent IT skills are a must, along with good written and verbal communication skills. The ability to maintain high levels of accuracy is also essential. Experience of development is desirable but not essential.
