About the role
Rother District Council is an ambitious authority with a reputation for innovation, forward thinking and excellent customer service. Rother is recognised for its high quality of life - as a place where there is a strong emphasis on community and neighbourhoods.
We understand that maintaining that high quality of life requires a commitment to the key factors we know our residents, businesses and visitors value; access to housing, a quality environment and facilities for leisure activities. These same people need to contact us and therefore we are committed to delivering customer service that enables them to do so through a variety of means.
As our new Head of Service, a particular focus will be to develop solutions to housing needs and respond to the requirements of the Homelessness Reduction Act. You’ll also work with partners across East Sussex on the wider housing and social care agenda along with waste and recycling, public realm and leisure.
This is a diverse and interesting role in which you will have the opportunity to hone your professional skill set across a range of council services. These include customer services, neighbourhood services and contracts, building maintenance, beach and coastal maintenance, museums and sports.
We are looking for a credible individual with the ability to deliver effective strategies and solutions. Ideally this will have been gained as a housing professional or in an aligned role e.g. charitable organisation dealing with housing issues or the contract management of housing providers.
Key to your success will be your strategic mindset, combined with the ability to work in a political environment and develop productive relationships with a range of partners to deliver tangible outcomes.
Rother District is located in the easternmost part of East Sussex. It benefits from a blend of some of the most beautiful countryside and coastline in South East England. The district is home to the historic market towns of Battle and Rye, the Victorian/Edwardian seaside town (and administrative centre) of Bexhill and many picturesque villages. Many of our residents are dispersed across the rural area, but with nearly half living in Bexhill.
The importance of the environment is evidenced by the extent of the district, some 82%, designated as ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’, while a further 7% is either nationally or internationally designated for its nature conservation value.
We are an employer of choice and our council is recognised as a very pleasant, friendly and supportive place to work. The talented and committed people who work for us come from a wide range of backgrounds and are our greatest asset.
Working at Rother District Council provides you with the opportunity to make a difference to the lives of local people and the local community. You’ll also benefit from family friendly policies, flexible and agile working, onsite parking, the Local Government Pension Scheme, as well as a commitment to your continued professional support and development.
We wish to make the application process as straightforward as possible and we just ask that you complete our online application form providing further information against just a small number of questions. You are also welcome to attach your CV and a supporting statement to further support your application, if you wish.
