Wokingham Borough Council has an excellent opportunity available for a Senior Capital Accountant to join our team on a full time, permanent basis.
As the Senior Capital Accountant, you will be responsible for the capital expenditure monitoring, covering current and future years budget setting. This will include meeting budget managers, supporting and monitoring projects operating in a complex and challenging financial environment, working with large financial values.
This pivotal role will work with different project managers, budget managers and project teams providing financial advice, support and challenge.
You will support and work closely with the Capital and Treasury Manager focusing on strategic objectives, strong financial management and contributing to the effectiveness of the service and the organisation to deliver the Council’s outcomes for its residents, customers and key stakeholders
This is an exciting role, where you will work across all areas of the Council on a wide range of capital projects including high value schemes. We offer hybrid working, allowing the team to work from home and attend the office a few times per month.

Key responsibilities:
- Undertake detailed capital expenditure monitoring including meeting managers
- Support capital budget setting processes
- Support complex capital projects
- Interpret and analyse detailed financial data / assumptions
- Lead specific requirements for statutory accounting / close of accounts including asset accounting
- Monitoring and completion of statutory returns relating to areas of capital and assets
- Work with key stakeholders including project managers, senior management and external auditors.
Candidate requirements:
- Good IT skills including office software such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to interrogate & analyse data & information at different levels
- Ability to review and challenge the progress on capital projects, identify areas of variance or risk and support identification of mitigations
- Experience in financial accounting and budget monitoring
