    Job introduction

    We are looking for a Support Assistant to join our Sheltered Housing team to provide residents with day to day help and liaising with external agencies. This is a part time role based at Arthur Dann Court however you may be required to work at any other Category 2.5 Sheltered Housing scheme if there is a need.

    Your new role

    You will work as a Support Assistant in a Portsmouth City Council Category 2.5 Sheltered Housing Scheme, mainly at Arthur Dann Court. Duties include supporting residents with daily needs, liaising with care agencies and health professionals, handling emergencies, updating records, serving meals, managing cash, and assisting with security, safety checks, and social activities. The role is 30 hours per week on a flexible rota, including weekends and bank holidays, with shifts between 7am and 10pm. You may work alone at times and cover other schemes when required.

    Who is the person summary:

    This role requires a caring and approachable individual with strong communication and listening skills, a professional attitude, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. You should have good written skills, basic numeracy, and IT proficiency (e.g., Microsoft Word and Outlook). Physical capability for moving and handling tasks is essential, along with flexibility and reliability to work across different schemes and adapt hours to meet service needs. The role involves providing domestic support and, in emergencies, personal care to residents, while remaining calm in challenging situations. Accurate spoken English and the ability to converse confidently with customers are also key requirements.
