    About The Role

Join our dynamic Resilience and Flood Risk Management team as a Senior Flood Risk Officer. Flood risk is a key priority in Hounslow, recognised by both Elected Members and Senior Officers. Operating in a complex urban environment, we are committed to reducing flood risk in line with the Council’s Climate Emergency Action Plan and our corporate plan pledges.

With a changing flood landscape, including the need to address the Thames 2100 strategy, we are increasing our investment in flood resilience. This role is one of the first internally recruited flooding posts and offers a unique opportunity for the successful candidate to shape the service and influence how we build resilience in the months and years ahead. The post is a two-year fixed-term contract, with potential for extension.

In this role, you will be responsible for assessing and managing flood risks within the borough. Your key tasks will involve supporting the London Borough of Hounslow to enact its duties under the Flood and Water Management Act (2010) as the Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA), including:

    • Reviewing and updating flood risk management plans, policies and mitigation strategies for the borough.
    • Collaborating and engaging with various stakeholders, including utilities companies, emergency services, and community groups.
    • Providing expert advice on flood risk and conducting drainage assessments to support planning and development decisions.
    • Supporting with funding bid applications and project management of our SuDS programme of works.
    • Working with the wider Resilience Team in emergency planning and response to support residents in times of need.

    Development Opportunities:

As a Senior Flood Risk Officer, you will have the opportunity to enhance your skills and knowledge through continuous professional development. You will gain experience in:

    • Strategic planning and policy development.
    • Community engagement and resilience building.
    • Multi-agency collaboration and emergency response planning.

If you are passionate about improving flood resilience in our community and have a keen interest in flood risk management, we would love to hear from you.
