We are seeking a Revenues and Benefits Manager to lead and manage the day to day operation of our Revenues and Benefits services covering council tax, business rates, housing benefit and council tax support. You will ensure the efficient collection of local taxation, the accurate assessment of benefit claims and the timely recovery of arrears and overpayments.
You will also oversee government returns, performance reporting and service improvement initiatives, working closely with the Assistant Director of Finance to deliver high quality strategic and operational outcomes. A key part of the role will involve managing and developing our Civica Open Revenues system, ensuring data integrity, compliance with GDPR and PSN requirements and maximising efficiency through system improvements.
In addition, you will act as the council’s expert on revenues and benefits legislation, providing expert advice to members and senior officers, representing the council at tribunals and user groups and contributing to the wider financial strategy and leadership of the organisation.
About You
We are looking for an experienced and motivated leader with a strong background in Revenues and Benefits. You will ideally be a qualified member of the IRRV or bring extensive equivalent management experience and have a deep understanding of the relevant legislation, policy and operational best practice. You will bring proven experience of managing teams, setting performance targets and delivering excellent results in a complex and busy environment.
Your ability to communicate clearly, manage change effectively and inspire confidence will be key to your success. You will also have strong IT and analytical skills, ideally with knowledge of the Civica Open Revenues system. Most importantly, you will be customer focused, adaptable and committed to developing a service that is both efficient and empathetic, particularly in meeting the needs of vulnerable residents.

The post is offered on a permanent, full time basis (36 hours per week).

The Council operates a hybrid working system where employees may work up to three days per week from home.
