    This is an exciting opportunity to join our Streetworks team, part of the council’s Highways service. We understand effectively managing activities on our highway network is key to making Barnsley an attractive place to live and do business. We’re looking for a motivated, enthusiastic and committed administrative support assistant to help us keep the Borough moving.

    In this role you will support your colleagues in the Streetworks team by dealing with enquiries from the public, elected members and colleagues in the utilities industry. You’ll provide administrative support such as taking minutes, arranging meetings and managing email inboxes. You will also issue highway licences such as skips and scaffolds within agreed conditions, with the support of your colleagues. You will deal with financial records, ensuring they are kept up-to-date by maintaining accurate records, monitoring budgets and issuing invoices and purchase orders. The ability to manage your workload and work to tight deadlines is essential to ensure works are completed within allotted timeframes.

    You’ll need some experience of working in an office environment, but we’ll give you full training on the specifics of the role.

    You’ll be a key part of a small team, so team working and good communication skills are essential. The job offers hybrid working so you have the opportunity to work both in the office and at home.
