Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a DoLs Administrator

This is a full-time, permanent role with hybrid working, and a salary of £28,193 - £32,104 per annum.

This vital role supports the Local Authority’s statutory responsibility to authorise and process Deprivation of Liberty Safeguard (DoLS) applications, while providing key support to the DoLS Manager. The Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA), introduced in stages from April to October 2007, was further strengthened by the Mental Health Act 2007, which added Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards from 1st April 2009.

Local Authorities (for residential/nursing homes) act as the statutory Supervisory Bodies under the DoLS framework. Practically, this means receiving requests from Managing Authorities (care homes and hospitals), coordinating assessments, and ensuring timely responses in line with DoLS regulations.

About us:

The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead (RBWM) is set in the wider county of Berkshire, one of the most economically productive and innovative areas of the country. The borough council – a unitary authority - takes pride in its exceptional team of dedicated professionals who are passionate about providing quality services to the community. RBWM is a unique borough, with huge opportunity given its proximity to London and expanding business sectors, as well as being a major cultural and tourism area which includes international attractions such as Windsor Castle, Legoland and Ascot Racecourse.

Given our Royal connections, the eyes of the world are often on us and we continue to rise to the challenge.

This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic DoLs Administrator to join our DoLs team.

The Role:

The DOLS Team works closely with advocacy providers and as a DoLs Administrator you will follow the referral process for Independent Mental Capacity Advocates and Relevant Person’s Representatives. All tasks require use of IT systems and databases, and data entry and record keeping are an essential part of the role.

The team consists of two administrative staff, and a DOLS Manager who you will report directly too. There is an ethos of supporting each other and team working to ensure that the objectives of the team are achieved.

Your role will involve:

  • Undertake administrative duties and processes within the DoLS team, which includes responding to complex telephone and email enquiries from families, assessors and partner agencies.
  • Processing of DoLS authorisation requests from care homes and hospitals, allocating these requests to assessors and authorisers.
  • Paying invoices and sending out authorisation paperwork.
  • Ensure accurate electronic records are updated and maintained for the individual and Quality Assurance purposes of the service and wider council requirements.
  • To submit all necessary data sets in line with national guidance and upon request from senior management team.

What we are looking for:

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • IT skills, specifically using excel, navigating databases and interpreting data
  • Ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines
  • Excellent customer service skills and minute taking experience
  • Previous experience of working within a busy office environment and ability to work as part of a team
  • Understanding and/or experience working with the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) or similar experience working in Local Government or the NHS.

What we offer:

  • 32 days annual leave
  • Flexible working including a hybrid working pattern for a better work-life balance.
  • Generous Local Government Pension scheme includes life cover (3 times of annual salary); and an Additional Voluntary Contribution (AVC) scheme to enhance your pension provision.
  • Free employee parking close to the offices.
  • Give As You Earn scheme.
  • Instant Reward Scheme to recognise and reward innovative achievement.
  • Employee Assistance Programme providing counselling, advice and information.
  • Access to discounts and deals with hundreds of retailers, including discounted gym memberships and travel deals.

RBWM values a collaborative and inclusive work environment, fostering creativity and innovation in all aspects of its operations. As an equal opportunities’ employer, we encourage applications from all as we believe diverse talent makes us stronger.

If you have a disability, are a current or former member of the armed forces or have been part of any formal care system up to the age of 25, you will be guaranteed an interview, should you meet the minimum requirements for the role.

Interview dates: week commencing 24/11/2025
