Why Southwark?

Southwark is one of London’s most dynamic and diverse boroughs - a place of energy, creativity, and ambition. We’re proud of our commitment to fairness, equality and opportunity, and we’re working every day to make Southwark a place where everyone can thrive.

Our Housing Needs and Support service plays a vital role in that vision. We help people find safe, secure homes, prevent homelessness, and support residents to live independently. To do this well, we rely on insight - not just data for data’s sake, but intelligence that helps us understand people’s needs, improve services, and make informed decisions about the future.

That’s why we’re investing in people who can turn information into impact, and insight into action.

What You'll Be Doing

This is a role that connects data with purpose. As our Data Insight and Intelligence Lead, you’ll help us understand how our services are performing, where pressures are building, and what opportunities lie ahead. You’ll turn complex information into clear, meaningful stories that drive change and support our vision to make Southwark a fairer, more equal borough.

You’ll work closely with senior leaders, housing officers, analysts and partners across the council - designing dashboards, analysing performance and helping to shape future housing strategies. Every report, visualisation and recommendation you create will help ensure residents get the best possible service.

Key responsibilities:

  • Build and manage high-quality Power BI dashboards and reporting tools that translate data into insight
  • Lead on analytical work that drives housing performance, planning and improvement
  • Use SQL, T-SQL and Python to extract, model and analyse complex datasets
  • Collaborate across Housing and other departments to embed a data-driven culture
  • Present your findings clearly and confidently to leaders, colleagues and stakeholders

What We're Looking For

You’ll be an analytical thinker with the confidence to challenge, question and influence through data. You’ll know how to transform numbers into narratives - helping people see the story behind the stats. Your mix of technical ability, curiosity and communication skills will make you a trusted voice in shaping better decisions for Southwark residents.

Experience within housing, local government or a similar public service would be valuable, but what matters most is your passion for using data to improve lives and services.

You’ll bring:

  • Proven experience using SQL, T-SQL, Python and Power BI to deliver clear, visual insight
  • Strong understanding of data quality, governance, and GDPR
  • The ability to analyse complex information and present it in accessible formats
  • Excellent communication skills, with confidence engaging technical and non-technical audiences
