About the role

Havering is London’s third largest borough by area. With an ambitious growth agenda and a rapidly rising population, the importance of Havering’s housing strategy cannot be underestimated or ignored.

We want our residents to feel proud and safe in a clean environment, but we want to go beyond this. Our vision ‘Havering – Making a Greater London’, is not just about embracing the best of what Havering has to offer, but also how we as a borough can play an active role in the success of the whole of London.

We are committed to developing proactive solutions which reduce homelessness and mitigate against the impact of forthcoming changes to housing benefits and demographics. The right housing strategy, with the right balance of affordable housing and other solutions, is key to residents and businesses alike.

We are looking to recruit a housing professional who has the breadth and depth of experience, combined with the flair for making things happen, to help us achieve our vision.

You will join our Neighbourhood’s Senior Leadership team at the most exciting time - presenting real opportunities to shape and innovate service delivery in a council that is strong on values, grows communities and is alive to innovation and opportunities which make a difference.

About you

It isn’t often that you get the level of opportunity Havering offers. Equally, you won’t be the kind of person who is overawed by that level of responsibility.

You will have worked in a senior management role and have a track record of delivering effective housing strategies and solutions.

You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to inspire and engage with your staff and to be able to influence external partners, elected members and senior colleagues.

Our housing service has already made great strides and delivers some impressive results. You will relish the opportunity to continue to drive improvements in service delivery - retaining a sharp focus on delivering desired outcomes.

About us

As one of London’s largest boroughs, with excellent travel connections, award winning green spaces, a great riverside location and affordable housing, Havering is on track to becoming a perfect place to live and work in Greater London.

We have plenty of green open space complementing Romford and its suburban hubs including Hornchurch, Gidea Park, and Rainham, boasting vibrant cultural and leisure opportunities and a thriving local economy.

Havering is a council with a bright future. It is ideally positioned to secure jobs, growth and prosperity for local people, with an ambitious and high-profile growth agenda.

As a council, we value our people and know that through rewarding them properly and investing in their development we can attract and retain the very best talent. We are a council that people want to work for and one in which you will have the opportunity to thrive and maximise your contribution and career potential.
