Craven is an area of outstanding natural beauty, with a rich cultural heritage the majority of which lies within the beautiful Yorkshire Dales National Park. Craven District Council covers the southern part of the Yorkshire Dales, the upper parts of Airedale, Wharfedale and Ribblesdale as well as the Wenning Valley near Bentham. The biggest centre is Skipton, a thriving and bustling market town. The district is mainly agricultural, but industry is encouraged, particularly in Skipton and the larger towns and villages.
Craven District Council employs approximately 250 people and is based on two main sites within Skipton. The Council aims to conserve the environment and work with communities and partners to, create a prosperous future, deliver excellent services and improve the quality of life for all. Craven District Council believes in valuing people and investing in their employees to help them reach their full potential.
The council has been assessed as 'Fair' following a recent CPA inspection and
described as a changing Council "with very good prospects for improvement".
With a new Chief Executive and revised management team, it is an exciting time
to join. As a small District Council employees get the chance to broaden their
skills and gain real hands on experience within a supportive organisation committed
to continuous improvement.
