1 SPECIALIST PORTAGE WORKER (Autism/Social & Communication Difficulties).

One part-time post: 10 ½ hours (pro-rata). All day Tuesday plus one other half day.

Waltham Forest Portage Service has been established since 1979 and is part of the Specialist Children’s Service based at The Wood Street Health Centre providing services to disabled children. The Service operates all year round.

We require applicants who have an Early Years or Teaching qualification. Applicants must have substantial experience of working with young children who have autism/social and communication difficulties and their families. You will need to have worked with both children and their parents individually and in groups. You will need to have had experience of working with multi-agency professionals and knowledge and/or experience of using the Early Support principles. The ability to speak a local community language would be an advantage.

If appointed, you will be running the Social & Communication Groups with a Speech & Language Therapist working with the children and their parents/carers. You will also provide advice and support to the parents/carers including joint home visits with other professionals when appropriate.
