Are you interested in developing your assessment skills? The Medway Adoption and Permanence Team has a newly created post responsible for the assessment and support of Special Guardians and Relatives and Friends Carers, and the children they care for.

This is an interesting and rewarding area of work; Medway has long promoted the use of family placements where children are unable to live with birth parents. The introduction of special guardianship by the Adoption and Children Act gave a further spur to this innovative area of social work by allowing foster carers and kinship carers the opportunity to offer permanent placements to children in their care.

You must be a qualified social worker with demonstrable post-qualifying children and families experience. You will have experience of family placement work, kinship care, and of Family Group Conferencing. You will have good assessment skills and sensitivity towards families offering to care for children who cannot remain with birth parents. Excellent communication skills are required. You will also have a consultancy role with children and families teams, and liaise closely with colleagues in fostering and adoption. You should have good court skills, and an interest in professional development.

Any offer of employment for these posts will be subject to a satisfactory Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau Disclosure.

All applicants must be registered, or in the process of registering with GSCC.

For an informal discussion please contact Stephen Perkins on 01634 335674 or Deirdre Baker, Relatives and Friends Social Worker 01634 335683

Closing date: 17 July 2009
