Responsible to: Deputy Head of Young People’s Services

• The majority of teenage conceptions are unplanned and over half lead to termination.
• 70% of young men and 85% of young women who had early sex wish they had waited.
• The incidence of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) in the UK is rising, especially in young people, Chlamydia being the most common.

It is these stark facts that form the basis of the Sexual Health and Teenage Pregnancy strategy, which aims to ensure that all young people can make informed decisions about their sexual health. The focus of this innovative strategy ensures that young people delay sex until they are ready; stay safe when they are sexually active; have access to quality, young person friendly information and services; and they understand the pressures and risks involved in today’s society.

We need an inspirational strategic leader who can build on the good work already achieved by maintaining the strategy, leading the partnership and championing Young People’s Sexual Health in Harrow. A strong local partnership is already in place to support you.

You will also act as the borough’s central source of information about Sexual Health and Teenage Pregnancy and will monitor the existing Service Level Agreements, prevention projects and media campaigns.

You will be knowledgeable about national targets and strategies related to Young People’s Sexual Health and Teenage Pregnancy, experienced in partnership working, able to show enthusiasm and creativity in this field of work. Ref. CS-SH2016
