Role Description:
With the arrival of the national personalisation agenda in Adult Social Care, there is an increased focus on public information provision and advice. All local authorities have a broader remit to provide universal services to the wider public, regardless of whether people are eligible to receive social care services.

The information provision, promotion and stakeholder engagement functions are a key part of the directorate strategy with many of these functions underpinning business priorities. This provides an exciting backdrop to a very busy communications work programme which also includes internal communications activity.

As Support Officer within the Strategic Support team, you will specialise in internal communications support, co-ordinate staff and public engagement events to support a series of initiatives and provide excellent copy writing skills for communications material aimed at a range of stakeholders.

You will help maintain the external website and intranet pages with relevant experience working with web-based information, co-ordinate and manage production of printed and audio visual materials, and help write newsletters and effective presentations.

Ideally, you should have an A-Level or NVQ 3 standard or equivalent with significant relevant experience, or a degree or diploma in communications, marketing or PR, or equivalent. You will need to understand best practice communications methods and channels and have a creative approach to your work. Your communication skills, verbal and written, will be second to none and you must be able to provide sound professional advice.

You will need to have sound knowledge of the Microsoft packages. The role will require the willingness to travel to meetings throughout the Surrey area.

For an informal discussion about this role, please contact Siobhan Abernethy on 01483 517257.

Interviews to take place on 30 March in Guildford.

Surrey County Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Closing Date: 24 March 2010
