Ensure the best possible placements for children and young people.

This is an opportunity to find the best possible placement solutions for children and young people who are unable to live with their families.

You will be working as part of our Child Care Support Team, and will focus on placements in the independent sector, primarily with independent foster care agencies and in residential homes. Placements can be requested in either a planned way or on an emergency basis.

The role involves developing relationships with providers, visiting new and ongoing resources, and assessing the quality of care on offer. You will also need to use your problem-solving and negotiation skills, as you consider different placement options and ensure the best outcomes for each child are achieved.

Another key objective is to ensure that every child or young person has a permanency plan, whether that means returning home, returning to in-county provision or remaining in their independent sector placement.

We’re looking for a qualified social worker with a comprehensive understanding of the child care planning process and significant experience of working with looked-after children. It’s essential that you have a broad knowledge of statutory child care, including risk management and LAC procedures. You should also be someone who is confident taking the initiative and who can work effectively with people both within the department and across partner agencies.

An enhanced Criminal Records Bureau disclosure and POCA check will be required for this role.
